HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker Cobra women’s soccer team picked up their first win of the season with a 5-3 win over the Barton Bulldogs in a Conference Carolinas soccer match Monday afternoon. The Cobras’ Sarah Kinsey (Windermere, Fla.) led the way in the win with a hat trick.

Coker struck first in the match with a goal from Emily Morrow (Columbia, S.C.) in the 16th minute off a corner from Jill Giguere (Myrtle Beach, S.C.). Barton quickly answered and evened the match at one in the 20th minute with a goal from Georgia Crow with an assist from Anna Tressler.

The score remained tied at one for nearly 20 minutes before Kinsey netted her first of the day in the 42nd minute on a breakaway goal. Less than a minute later Kinsey struck again; this time with an assist from Shakenia Johnson (Columbia, S.C.) to give Coker a two goal lead heading into halftime.

The Cobras wasted no time finding the back of the net in the second half, this time it was Rachel Solomon (Bluffton, S.C.) scoring an unassisted goal, the first of her collegiate career.

Coker held the three goal lead until the 75th minute when Barton’s Hilary Peterson hit the first of a pair of goals. The first came from an assist from Morgan Brush, the second came with an assist from Erin Haddon just two minutes later bringing the Bulldogs within a goal, 4-3.

Kinsey completed her three goal night with the insurance goal for the Cobras in the 78th minute with an assist from Johnson, giving Coker the eventually 5-3 victory.

Carrie Hudnell (Goose Creek, S.C.) had four saves in the net for the Cobras, while Mileika Miki had two for the Bulldogs.

Coker will return to the field on Saturday, to host the Saints of Limestone College in a conference match starting at 2:00 p.m.
