Columbia, SC- The Coker College Women’s Soccer Team opened the 2007 season with a 1-0 victory over the Fighting Koalas of Columbia College. With the victory the Cobras are 1-0 on the season.

The Cobras got on the board early with a Kathryn Friedmann/Hendersonville, TN, goal at around the seventh minute, thanks to a tremendous pass from Katie Holliday/Charleston, SC. That goal would be the only offensive threat the Cobras would manage for the rest of the match.

The Coker defense was led by freshman Mandi Warner/Walterboro, SC, who dominated the backfield.

“I think it was a good victory for us,” said Coker Head Coach Tim Wolz, “Over a much improved Columbia Team. They were disciplined and very well coached.”

The Cobras return to the field on Wednesday, as they travel to North Greenville for a 2:00 p.m. match.
