Cobras Rally for 22-19 Victory at Queens (N.C.) Monday Night

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Coker University wrestling team rallied for a 22-19 South Atlantic Conference Carolinas victory at Queens (N.C.) on Monday night (Jan. 27).

Queens took a 4-0 lead off a major decision at 125 pounds, before Chris Poland picked up a win by forfeit at 133 pounds to put the Cobras ahead 6-4. The Royals would take a brief 7-6 lead with a decision at 141 pounds, before Matthew Kieta would post a 6-1 decision over Joey Hancock at 149 pounds to put the Cobras ahead 9-7. Queens would re-gain the lead at 10-9 with a decision at 157 pounds, before Ethan Welsh put the Cobras back ahead with a victory by forfeit at 165 pounds. Queens would get within 15-13 with a win by decision at 174 pounds, before the Cobras extended their lead to 18-13 with a 7-1 decision win by Corey Perkins-Willett at 184 pounds over Jay Skalecki. After a win by fall at 197 pounds put the Royals ahead 19-16, No. 6/11/11 Ramon Correa posted an 8-0 major decision to rally the Cobras to victory.  

The Cobras (6-2, 2-1 SACC) are back on the mat on Saturday (Feb. 1) at Belmont Abbey in conference action. The match is set for 1:00 p.m., with video available at www.cokercobras.com.
