Wrestling Grounds Belmont Abbey 35-6
The Cobras won all but one bout in their first ever ECAC victory.
HARTSVILLE, S.C.- The Coker wrestling team defeated Belmont Abbey 35-6 for its first Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory on Wednesday (Dec. 2).
Coker scored the first 18 points of the match, sparked by a stellar start from its two lightest seniors. Charlie Huff scored a decisive 17-7 major decision at 125 and Derrick Nelson followed up with a 15-0 tech fall win at 133.
Sophomore Curtis Harris picked up a 9-4 decision at 141 pounds and Rashad Cunningham gutted out a 5-3 win scoring a takedown in the final minute of the match at 149 pounds.
Shabo Gorial continued the streak picking up a decision at 157 pounds in a high-scoring affair 16-11. Derrick Booth would pick right back up at 174 pounds with a 4-1 decision.
Sophomore Luis Peguero scored a big 17-0 tech fall win at 184, while Temaris Dixon was credited with a win by forfeit at 197. Austin Akins closed out the match with a 7-3 decision at heavyweight.
The Cobras will be in action again on Dec. 13 when they travel to the Newberry Duals. The action begins at 8:00 a.m.
