Wrestling Hosts Belmont Abbey Wednesday

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- Coker wrestling will play host to Belmont Abbey in its second dual match of the year on Wednesday (Dec. 2).

The Cobras last saw action at the King Open back on Nov. 22. Nine Cobras placed in their respective weight classes, and all of them placed fourth or better. Senior Charlie Huff placed second at 125 pounds, posting a 3-1 mark for the day. Huff won his matches by fall, decision and major decision respectively before losing in overtime 5-3 in the finals. Fellow senior Derrick Nelson placed third at 133 pounds, going 5-1 on the day. Two of his wins came by fall, one by tech fall and one sudden victory.

Junior RaSean McArthur placed third in the 141 pound weight class, posting a 3-1 record for the day. In winning third, he defeated fellow Cobra Curtis Harris on tiebreakers 7-6. Harris, a sophomore, went 4-2 on the day and picked up one win by major decision and one by fall.

Freshman Jordan Tague placed third at 149, posting a 4-1 mark and picking up one win by fall. Fellow freshman Shabo Gorial finished in third place at 157 pounds, going 3-1 on the day and picking up two wins by fall.

Senior Zach Dicus placed fourth at 165, going 3-2 and winning his first two matches by fall. At 174, senior Derrick Booth placed second, going 2-1. He won his first by fall and fell in the championship match by decision 6-4. At heavyweight, senior Austin Akins placed second, posting a 3-1 mark on the day. Akins won his first bout by fall and fell only in the championship match by decision 4-1.

Belmont Abbey comes into the match with a 4-2 record overall and a 0-2 mark in ECAC competition. The Crusaders and the Cobras both defeated St. Andrews, and both competed in the Pembroke Classic. 

The match is slated for a 7:00 p.m. start. Tickets for the match are $5 for adults, and $3 for students. Coker faculty, staff and students receive free admission with ID.
