RALEIGH, N.C. – The Coker wrestling team traveled to NC State on Sunday (Nov. 17) for the Wolfpack Open. As one of just four Division II schools at the tournament, the Cobras had a very strong showing against a mainly Division I field. 

Leading the way for the Cobras were Charlie Huff, Ellison Sanders and Austin Akins. All three Coker wrestlers picked up three victories on the day and they were just shy of placing.

Included in their victories was an 8-4 decision for Huff over Newberry's Nick Langford at the 133-pound division. Sanders pinned Newberry's John Fitzpatrick at the 165-pound division. He also earned a 22-7 tech fall against UNC's Riley Allen, as well as an 8-6 decision against NC State's Mikey Amorando. At the 285-pound division Akins' biggest win of the day was a 1-0 decision over Virginia Tech's Brandon Taylor.

The Cobras will now prepare for their first dual meet of the season at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday (Nov. 21) at Limestone College.
