Coker Takes on Newberry

Hartsville, SC - The Coker University Women's Lacrosse Team fell short to Newberry in their Wednesday (April 12) night match-up.

Serena Elias of Newberry started off the night for the Wolves, scoring within the first two minutes of the game. Ella Todd put up the next goal for Newberry and took their lead to 2-0. Madeline Fontana, hoping to spark a fire in the Cobras, scored her first goal off of a free position and took Newberry's lead down to just one. Finishing out the first quarter, Newberry claimed eight goals and took the score up to 10-1. Newberry starting off similar to the first quarter added another two goals at the beginning of the second quarter. In response, Hailey Morgan scored two back to back goals in hopes to continue closing that gap on Newberry. The Wolves registered three more goals to Coker's one (Hailey Morgan) and claimed an 11 point lead.

Heading into the third quarter, Newberry rattled off three consecutive goals. This put the score at 18-4, but Hailey Morgan (assist from Mia MacMillan) added on her fourth goal of the night. The Cobras were able to find the back of the cage one last time before the third quarter finished, a bullet from Amariah Lawson assisted by Hailey Morgan. To finalize the game, Newberry was able to get in one last goal while Coker put in another three. The final three goals were scored by Amariah Lawson, Abby Gross, and Hailey Morgan.

Zoe Cotheran played all 60 minutes between the pipes and collected a total of six saves.
