Cobras Drop Tough Decision to Emmanuel (Ga.)

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker University women's lacrosse team dropped a tough decision to Emmanuel College (Ga.) by a score of 13-12 on Tuesday (Feb. 22).

The Cobras got on the scoreboard first, as Amariah Lawson found the back of the net just 2:15 into the first quarter for the 1-0 lead. After a Lions goal to tie things at 1-1, senior Meagan Gallagher converted on a pass from Madeline Hart to retake the 2-1 advantage. Emmanuel would score the next four goals, but Gallagher would respond by scoring back-to-back goals for her first half hat-trick to draw the Cobras within one. Annabelle Chuilli added two goals in the first half, and Gallagher added a fourth to make the score 8-7 at the half in favor of the Lions.

The Lions and Cobras each tallied three goals in the third quarter, with Amariah Lawson scoring twice to complete her hat-trick and defender Alli Green going coast-to-coast and finishing past the Emmanuel goalie. The Cobras added two more goals in the fourth quarter behind Chuilli's third for her own hat-trick and Makenzie Stroup's unassisted effort. The valiant effort came up just short and Emmanuel took the 13-12 final.

Coker was led by Gallagher, Lawson, and Chuilli on offense as they accounted for 10 of the Cobras' 12 goals. Gallagher, Stroup, Hannah Shuren, and Madeline Hart all recorded assists to aid the Coker effort. Junior Abby Kellner made ten stops in goal on the night.

The Cobras will return to action on Saturday (Mar. 5) when they travel to Hickory, N.C. for their South Atlantic Conference opener against Lenoir-Rhyne. First draw is scheduled for 1 p.m., with live video and statistics available at www.cokercobras.com
