
Women's Lacrosse Drops Close Decision to Montevallo

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker University women's lacrosse team dropped a close battle to the University of Montevallo on Friday (Feb. 11) night by a score of 11-9.
The Cobras jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after Gabby Jessup found the back of the net at the 11:37 mark of the first quarter. The Falcons would answer with three consecutive goals before Hannah Shuren countered with a score of her own. Montevallo added one more before the quarter break to make the score 4-2 after fifteen minutes.
Montevallo scored two early goals in the second quarter, but the Cobras came roaring back with three unanswered goals by Shuren, Annabelle Chuilli, and Meagan Gallagher. The Falcons would stop the bleeding with a goal in the final minute of the half, but Gallagher would come right back to score again and make the margin 7-6 at the end of thirty minutes of play.
Montevallo scored the lone goal of the third period, and the two teams traded scores back and forth throughout the final quarter. Amariah Lawson, Shuren, and Gallagher all added goals during the fourth, but it was not quite enough as the Falcons held on for the 11-9 victory.
The Cobras were led offensively by Shuren and Gallagher who each recorded a hat trick. Junior goalkeeper Abby Kellner registered ten saves in net to lead the defensive effort.
Coker will be back in action Tuesday (Feb. 15) when they travel to Wilson, N.C. to take on Barton College. Live video and stats will be available at www.cokercobras.com.
