Coker Tabs Daniel Allen as Golf Coach

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker College vice president of athletics and facilities Lynn Griffin announced today that Daniel Allen has been appointed as head men's and women's golf coach.

"Daniel has an extensive amount of knowledge and experience within the game of golf," Griffin said. "His reputation throughout the golf world is second-to-none, and there's no doubt our programs are in good hands with Daniel at the helm. We are thrilled to bring him on board to lead our student-athletes."

Allen replaces Tommy Baker, who left to become the head women's golf coach at St. Leo University earlier this month.

"I am extremely honored to join the Coker College family," Allen said. "I am grateful to Dr. Wyatt, Dr. Griffin and the athletic department for giving me the opportunity to coach such fine student-athletes. I am excited to step into such a respected program that is known for its success on and off the course. I look forward to the responsibility of taking this program forward and expanding the history and tradition of excellence that the Coker golf program has established."

Allen heads the Cobra golf programs after most recently serving as assistant men's golf coach at the University of Pennsylvania for two years. Prior to that, he was an assistant coach for the men's and women's golf programs at California University of Pennsylvania. Allen has also been a teaching professional at Stratton Mountain Resort in Vermont this summer.

In addition, Allen was director of instruction at U.S. Golf Camps from 2011-12 and an assistant golf professional for Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club in Tampa, Fla., from 2007-2010.

As a player, Allen was a 2006 NCAA Division II National Championship participant while a member of the Eckerd College golf team and a 2006 U.S. Amateur participant. Allen has played professionally on the Hooters tour, New England tour and West Florida golf tour.

Allen holds a Bachelor of Arts in business administration/management from Eckerd College and a Master of Science in sports management/intercollegiate athletic administration from California University of Pennsylvania.
