Coker Women’s Golf Ready for 2012 Anderson Invitational

ANDERSON, S.C. – The 2012-13 women's golf season will tee-off this Monday (Sept. 10) as they travel to participate in the Anderson Women's Invitational.  The event is a two-day tournament that will host five of Coker's finest.

"It's nice to start the year against a great regional field like the one at the Anderson Invitational," said Coker head coach Tommy Baker. "We've got a lot of talent this year, and I'm just excited about getting out there and seeing what we can do in competition."

The Cobras shot their lowest rounds of the season last year at the Anderson Invitational, combining for a team score of 335 in the first round, and 331 in the second.

Coker is returning 4-of-5 golfers from last year's team.  The Cobras will be led by sophomore Sara Allen and junior Krista Thorpe, who each shot a 79 at last years Anderson Invitational, and had a team low average of only 86 strokes per round.  Mallory Tompkins and Jessi Mckenzie are also returning for coach Baker, who averaged 87 and 93 strokes per round.  High school standout and 2011 Girls Golf All-Region selection Taylor Demby will be making her collegiate debut for the Cobras and is hoping to have an immediate impact.

Coker will be 1-of-9 teams at the Anderson Women's Invitational.  Other teams include: Erskine College, Pfeiffer University, Flagler College, Mars Hill College, Converse College, Queens University of Charlotte, Southern Wesleyan University, and Spartanburg Methodist College.
