Cobras Pick up SAC Win, Complete Season Sweep of Brevard

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- Coker women's basketball picked up a South Atlantic Conference win and completed the season sweep of Brevard, winning 80-67 on Saturday (Jan. 28).

The teams played a high-octane first quarter that saw Brevard holding a 19-17 lead after 10 minutes. Coker would turn up the intensity, winning the second quarter 20-12 to take a 37-31 lead to the break. The teams went bucket for bucket for the first few minutes of the second, with Lindsey Adams and Aloni McFarland helping Coker keep pace with Brevard's hot-shooting Lynsey Crisp. Trai Johnson got in on the action with a close-range jumper that gave Coker a brief 23-21 lead. After Johnson split a pair of free throws and Crisp notched a bucket, Coker responded with six unanswered in just over 45 seconds. An Iresha Cooper layup followed by an Elizabeth Kincaid jumper put Coker up by three, before Caitland Considine got a steal at midcourt and scored the breakaway layup to stretch the lead to five. Sydney Shull would score her next two possessions, and Adams ended the half with a three-pointer that left the lead at six. Coker would score 20 in the third quarter and 23 in the fourth to seal the home victory.

Cooper led the offense with 24 points and 13 rebounds in her second consecutive doube-double effort. Shull was the other starter in double figures, notching 12. Adams added 12 and McFarland chipped in 10. As a team, the Navy and Gold shot 54.2 percent, out-rebounded Brevard 40-18, scored 19 second-chance points, won the paint battle 36-28 and got 33 points off their bench.

The Cobras are back at home on Wednesday Feb. 1 when they host Queens (N.C.) in South Atlantic Conference play. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 p.m. at the DeLoach Center. Tickets for the game are $5 for adults, $3 for students and free to all Coker faculty, staff and students.
