Cobras Fall to Catawba 78-71

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker women's basketball team lost a tough 78-71 competition to Catawba on Wednesday (Jan. 15) night in a SAC showdown.  Coker now sits at 8-5 overall and has moved to 6-3 in the conference.

Catawba (8-5, 6-3) opened the first half with an 8-2 offensive run.  Coker's offense however battled back to a 16-16 tie at the five-minute mark, but the Indians would eventually take a 30-24 advantage into halftime.

Coker struggled in the first ten minutes of the second half, as they fell to a 19-point deficit.  The navy and yellow did not panic however, and proceeded to go on a 14-2 run to cut the Indian lead to just seven.  Coker then pulled within four with just one minute remaining, but a late three by Catawba's Jada Huntley swayed the momentum in favor of the Indians.

Tanesha Stenson lead the game and the charge for the Cobras with 22 points, and four assists.  Kelley Godbout netted 13 points of her own along with a team high seven rebounds, while Jasmine Evans poured in 11.

Coker will be looking to bounce back this weekend, as they travel to face Carson-Newman on Saturday (Jan. 18).  The Cobras will take the floor at 4:00 p.m., followed by the men's game at 6:00 p.m.
