Lau Scores 27 in Cobras Loss to Saints

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker women's basketball team fell to Limestone College (9-2, 6-1) 64-60 in a Conference Carolinas match on Saturday (Jan. 12) afternoon.  With the loss, the Cobras fall to 9-5 on the year, and 5-3 in league play.

It was a battle between two very evenly matched teams as the lead changed 10-times throughout the game with the scoreboard tied on nine separate occasions.

Limestone came out with a 7-2 run during the first four minutes of the competition to take a 9-2 lead.  The Cobras trailed the Saints for the first seven minutes, until Coker went on an 8-0 run of their own and tied the game at 18.  Neither team could take control from that point on, and the score was tied at 32 at the break.

The intensity of the first half carried into the final 20-minutes, as neither team could separate from the other.  Then with six minutes remaining in regulation, a pair of free throws from Limestone's Danielle Dixon gave the Saints a 53-52 lead over the Cobras.  Although Coker would remain close, they could not retake the lead.

Autumn Lau lead all scorers with 27-points.  Lau also finished with eight rebounds and three blocks.  Priscilla Fenty had a season high 17-points, while Hannah Kuhn contributed 10-points.

As a team, Coker shot 41-percent (23-55) from the floor, and collected 42-rebounds.  The Cobras also had 17 team assists.

Coker will travel to Queens for their next Conference Carolinas competition on Wednesday (Jan. 16).  The game is scheduled for a 5:30 tip-off.
