Coker's Finora Excited to Take on Tennessee as a Coach
Coker head women's basketball coach Jenny FInora is hoping she can lead the Cobras to victory liek the one she lead Kentucky to as a player in 2006.
HARTSVILLE, S.C. –For Coker's head women's basketball coach Jenny Finora, playing the University of Tennessee brings back a lot of memories, but one in particular stands out above the rest. On Jan. 26, 2006, Finora was the leading scorer for the Kentucky Wildcats in their upset of the No. 1 Volunteers; the first time Kentucky had beaten Tennessee since 1986.
Finora, then Jenny Pfeiffer, scored 16 points, including hitting the game-tying and eventual game-winning free throws. She was a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line that night.
On Sunday (Nov. 4) when the Cobras take the floor against the Volunteers Finora hopes she can bring a little of that Kentucky magic to the game, this time as a coach.
"This will be a great experience for our team. It is going to be an exciting and intense game," said Finora. "It was always an intense rivalry when I played. They will bring their 'A' game for us, and we intend to do the same. Playing against Tennessee was something I will never forget. I am very excited to now be coaching against them."
Sunday's game will mark the second time in Finora's three years at Coker that the Cobras will open the season against a SEC opponent. Last year, Coker took on Finora's alma mater Kentucky.
The Tennessee game tips-off at 2 p.m. and it will be broadcast online at www.utsports.com/allaccess.
