Athens, WV- The Coker Lady Cobras Basketball Team opened the 2007 season with a pair of losses at the Lady Lion Classic at Concord University in Athens, West Virginia, over the weekend. Coker lost their first game of the weekend to host Concord by just two points, 67-65 and then lost to Fairmont State by 10 points, 79-69 on Saturday.

In the Concord game, Henna Koponen (Vantaa, Finland) led the Cobra scorers with 19 points and three rebounds, while Temeca Spain (Conway, SC) had 14 points and six rebounds. Lotta Aaltonen (Rauma, Finland) finished the game with 10 points and six rebounds for Coker.

The Fairmont State game saw Coker spread the scoring around much more with five players scoring in double figures. Again Koponen led the way with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Rebecca Kolbeck (Santa Paula, CA) came off the bench with 14 points and six rebounds. Jessica Hayes (Beaufort, SC) chipped in 13 points and five rebounds, with Aaltonen and Spain each adding 10 points and eight and five rebounds respectively.

Coker (0-2) returns to the floor for their home and Conference Carolinas opener on Monday night as they host the Anderson University Trojans at 5:30 p.m. in the Timberlake-Lawton Gymnasium.
