Eugene Galloway Named Track & Field and Cross Country Head Coach

Hartsville, SC-  Eugene Galloway has been named Coker University's head men's and women's track and field and cross country, announced today, May 2nd, 2023 by Vice President of Athletics and Athletic Facilities, Dr. Lynn Griffin.  Coach Galloway joins the Coker program after serving in the same role at Roanoke College since 2018.    

                    

"We are excited to welcome Coach Galloway to Coker and the Hartsville community," said Griffin.  "Gene brings significant experience and success to the Cobras and I look forward to watching him continue to grow and build our program".   

 

Galloway comes to Coker from Roanoke College.  He arrived at Roanoke in the fall 2014 as the assistant track and field and cross-country coach.  In 2018, he was promoted to head coach of the program.   During his five years as a head coach of the Maroons, he has coached eight NCAA All-Americans, 16 NCAA DIII Champion Qualifiers, 62 ODAC Conference Champions, and 102 All-ODAC South/Southeast All-Region, performers.  In 2022, Galloway was named the ODAC Women's Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year and he also coached the ODAC Women's Outdoor Rookie of the Year. In 2018, Gene had his first National Runner-up in the 60-meter sprint with Quinn Harlan who clocked a 7.46 hitting the second-fastest time in DIII history (set the ODAC Record).  Galloway's 2015 women's team won the ODAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship. That same year the 4x400 Women's relay was NCAA Division III National Runner-Ups as well as setting an ODAC Conference record with a time of 3:49.24. 

 

"I am incredibly grateful to Dr. Griffin and the search committee for the opportunity to lead the Coker University Cross Country/Track and Field programs," said Galloway.  "From the moment I came to campus, it felt like home with how welcoming the community was. I am excited to get to know each student-athlete and grow a strong program. Our focus will be to build a team culture centered on open communication and the constant pursuit to improve each and every day. Our family looks forward to being a part of the Hartsville community". 

 

Galloway earned his M.S. in Sports Studies and a B.A. in Communications from High Point University where he was a two-time NCAA Division I East Regional Qualifier in the men's triple jump, a two-time NCAA Big South Indoor and Outdoor Triple Jump Champion, and was a four-time NCAA Big South Conference Presidential Scholar.  Galloway has been named to the All-Big South Conference Decade team.
