Cobras Sweep Road Sweep Against Shaw

The Coker University Softball team scored a combined 44 runs in their sweep against Shaw on Wednesday. The Cobras combined for 31 hits in the two games, and saw multiple Cobras have multi-hit games.

Game 1

In the first game, Coker was able to pull away with a commanding 26-0 victory over Shaw. The Cobras were able to account for 17 hits on the afternoon, including 10 extra-base hits.

The Coker Cobras got off to a strong start, scoring three runs in the first inning and adding four more in the second. The third inning proved to be the most productive for Coker, as they exploded for 17 runs to put the game out of reach for Shaw. The offensive onslaught was led by Savanah Fowler, who had five RBIs, and Mya Cribbs, who hit a home run and drove in four runs. Caitlyn Wray was also able to display some power for the Cobras as she launched two home runs on the day while driving in six.

On The Mound

Madie Andrews earned the win for Coker, pitching 2.2 innings with five strikeouts and allowing no runs. Tibby Hessian also contributed with 2.1 scoreless innings of relief while striking out five batters.


Game 2

In the second game, it was more so the same for the Cobras as they were able to take Game 2 by a final score of 18-4. Scoring in two or more runs in every inning, which included a seven-run 2nd inning.

The Cobras were able to tally 14 hits in the second game, including three extra-base hits. Two doubles by Cheyenne Palmer and Abbie McCants, and a solo home run by Cameron Jackson. Coker also saw strong offensive performances from Kelsi Scott, who scored three times for the Cobras, Hannah Davis, who was able to pick up two hits, and Payton Rainey, who was 2 for 2 on the day with a run scored and a run batted in.

On The Mound

Abbie McCants delivered a solid performance for Coker, allowing only one run over 3.1 innings. Maddie Newsome also pitched well in relief, pitching 1.2 innings.

The Cobras will return home on Saturday for a doubleheader vs. Erskine, with the first pitch scheduled for 1:00 PM.
