Softball Splits Day Two of CSU Classic

COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Coker College softball team was back in action on Saturday (Mar. 2) for day two of the 2019 CSU Classic as they beat Barry University 2-0 and fell to the hosts Columbus State 3-0.

Taylor Forehand dazzled in game one after picking up her nation-leading fifth save of the year in yesterday's win. Forehand was in the circle for all seven innings as she gave up just three hits and struck out five in the win. It took until the fifth inning for the Cobras to get something going as Maria Williamson led off the inning with a single before Ashley Meckley walked to put runners one first and second with no outs. Makayla Shore moved both runners over with a sacrifice bunt and the Buccaneers intentionally walked Madison King to load the bases. With two outs Anna Gluhosky came through with the breakthrough as she singled to left field to score two runs.

Lauren DeWitt led the Cobras offensively with a pair of hits while Gluhosky, King, and Williamson each had one.

The second game of the night against Columbus State was tough sledding for the Cobras as they had a difficult time putting runs on the board. Christine Carver was solid in the circle as she pitched 5.2 innings, giving up three runs on six hits with a pair of strikeouts before being relieved by Forehand. Forehand was lights out once again as she struck out both batters she faced. Offensively, Williamson and Brianna Strickland led the Cobras with one hit each.

The Cobras will be back in action on Sunday (Mar. 3) at 11:00 AM when they take on Bellarmine in the final day of the 2019 CSU Classic.
