Cobras Welcome Pioneers to Town for SAC Doubleheader

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College softball team will play host to the Tusculum Pioneers on Saturday (April 12) in a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader.

The Cobras come into the contest after splitting a doubleheader with the Wingate Bulldogs who are at the top of the SAC standings. The Bulldogs took game one 4-3, but Coker rallied to take game two by a score of 3-2.

Outfielders Katelyn Szupello and Sydney Weatherford have been the offensive juggernauts this season for the Navy and Yellow. Both have batting average's that are top 20 in the conference, Szupello at .371 and Weatherford at .368. Szupello's four triples are also good enough for second best in the conference to go along with her 25 RBIs. Weatherford is tops in several offensive categories for the Cobras. She is the team leader in RBIs with 39, doubles with 11, and home runs with seven. Her team-highs are also in the top ten in the conference.

Lauren Phillips has been the leading pitcher this season for Coker. She heads into the weekend with an even 9-9 record in 101 innings of work. Her 3.95 ERA is best on the staff.

The Pioneers come to Hartsville sporting a 24-20 overall and 10-6 in conference record. Offensively they are led by Carolyn Williamson and Kaytlin Stroinski. Williamson leads the team with a .303 batting average and Stroinski's 27 RBIs is a team high. On the mound they are led by Kelly King. King has a team high 16 wins which is good enough for third in the conference to go along with a 1.79 ERA.

Game one of the doubleheader is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. at Saleeby-Stokes softball field with game two starting at 3:00 p.m. Live stats can be followed at www.cokercobras.com
