Patriots Top Cobras in Double-Header Series

FLORENCE, S.C. – The Coker softball team lost a double-header series to Francis Marion (10-4) on Thursday (Feb. 21).  With the loss the Cobras drop to 4-4 on the year.

Game one featured little action as both teams struggled to connect from the plate.  Francis Marion was able to drive in the games only run during the bottom of the fourth inning, but it would prove to be enough as the Patriots took the first game with a score of 1-0.

Lauren Phillips would be tacked with the game loss, pushing her to an even 2-2 record on the year.  Phillips threw six innings, only allowing five hits, one walk, and four strikeouts.

The offensive struggles continued into game two for Coker, as the team was only able to collect two hits.  Coker's defense however showed strength by only allowing the Patriots to score two runs off of nine hits.  Unfortunately Coker could not mount a comeback, and fell 2-0 in the second game.

Breanna Skipper was charged with the loss in game two, after 3.1-innings pitched.  Skipper allowed two runs on six hits, and walked one batter.

Coker softball will be back in action this Saturday (Feb. 23) against Anderson in a double-header series.  The first game will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by the second game at 3:00 p.m.
