HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker Softball team swept the St. Andrews Knights in a two game series on Friday (Feb. 15).  With the wins, the Cobras improve to 4-2 on the year.

Game one of the series was all-even until the Cobra offense came alive in the bottom of the fourth inning and scored 10-runs.  After four straight singles from Jaclin Poole, Logan Cox, Bryant McLendon, and Clarissa Suttle, the inning highlighted three straight doubles.  Sydney Weatherford sparked the power hitting when she doubled to left field, followed by Stacey Burr and Poole who also doubled to the left side.

All in all, the inning featured nine hits and 10-runs that allowed the Cobras to capture the first game 10-1 in five innings. 

Breanna Skipper would be credited with the win in game one after giving up zero hits in 1.2-innings pitched, and earning two strike-outs.

The second game presented a similar story.  The competition was all-even through two innings, until Coker went on a six run offensive surge in the bottom of the third.

With the lead off hitter walked, Coker singled the next three hitters to score a run and load the bases with no outs.  The Cobras went on to collect three more hits, and drive in five more runs to take a 6-0 lead heading into the top of the fourth.

After a three up and three down defensive stand, the red-hot batting of the Cobras took control once again in the bottom of the fourth.  With two on and no body out, Weatherford ripped a three run homer to left field, and allowed the Cobras to go up 9-0 on the Knights.  Coker would eventually score one more run to take a commanding 10-0 lead into the top of the fifth. 

St. Andrews would respond however by driving in three runs in the top of the fifth to avoid ending the game in five innings.

With one out in the bottom of the sixth Lauren Brailsford singled to the short stop, but then advance to second base on an error to put the Cobras in scoring position.  Poole then stepped up to the plate and ripped a ground ball through the left side that sent Brailsford home where she gracefully slid around the tag and earned the game-winning run to put the eight run rule into affect.

The Cobras would win the second game 11-3 in six innings.

Skipper would also be credited with the win during game two after only giving up one run on six hits in six innings pitched.  She also had two strikeouts.

Coker will have little time to enjoy the sweep, as they prepare to travel to take on Belmont Abbey in a Conference Carolinas competition.  The first game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by the second game at 3:00 p.m.
