Florence- Tamele Bell’s two-run blast off Somer Bigham in the top of the seventh inning provided the difference as Columbus State held off the Cobras.

Randi Rainwater earned the win in relief, shutting out Coker on two hits in 3 2/3 innings with two strikeouts.

“We made a couple of mistakes late in the game, and a team like (Columbus State) will always capitalize on those,” Coker coach David Hanna said.

“I’m proud of these girls, though. They played about as well as a team could play against some tough competition.”

Christan Morabito and Jessica Blackwell led the Cobras (14-6) with three hits each. Anna Lucas had one hit, a solo home run in the fifth inning.

Bigham took the loss in relief, giving up two earned runs in three innings pitched. The West Florence product fanned two batters and hit one.

“(Bigham) was a little bit tight out there,” Hanna said. “But with the bases loaded in the fifth, we had to go with her.”
