Day Two Results

Game Eight: #5 Limestone 7 – #7 Barton 3

HARTSVILLE, SC – Limestone advanced with a 7-3 comeback victory over Barton Saturday morning.  The Bulldogs scored one run in the second and two in the third to lead 3-1.  The Saints answered in the bottom of the third with a six-run outburst.  A double by Keisha Powell made it 3-2 and LC tied the score at three before loading the bases again with a hit batsman.  Freshman Jessica Brown then came to bat and smashed a grand slam to give the Saints a commanding 7-3 lead.  BC loaded the bases in the sixth but pitcher Elizabeth Hawkins ended the threat with a called third strike.

Game Nine: #11 Lees-McRae 3 – #8 Pfeiffer 0

HARTSVILLE, SC – Lees-McRae knocked Pfeiffer out of the CVAC Tournament early Saturday morning by a score of 3-0.  The bottom-seeded Bobcats scored twice in the third to and iced the game with a solo homerun by freshman Kasey McHone in the top of the seventh inning.   Pfeiffer threatened in the fifth and sixth innings but couldn’t push a run across.  Megan Phillips pitched a complete game three-hitter with seven strikeouts for LMC.


Game Ten:  #9 St. Andrews 11 – #10 Mt. Olive 1

HARTSVILLE, SC – St. Andrews cruised to an 11-1 victory over Mt. Olive in the consolation bracket.  The Knights led 2-1 heading into the bottom of the second and loaded the bases with two outs.  Kristal Shelton followed with a grand slam and the first of back-to-back-to back homeruns by St. Andrews.  Shelton came back up in the third and hit a three-run shot to finish the game with two homers, seven RBI and two runs scored.

Game Eleven:  #5 Limestone 9 – #11 Lees-McRae 2

HARTSVILLE, SC – Limestone rallied late to defeat Lees-McRae 9-2 and eliminate the Bobcats.  The Saints snapped a scoreless tie in the third inning when Amy Yates tripled and scored on a single by Melissa Hampton.  SerenaWright put LMC on top in the fifth inning with a two run homer to left field but it didn’t last long.  Limestone moved back in front 5-2 in the bottom of the inning and broke it open in the sixth with four more runs.  Yates finished 3-4 with a triple, two stolen bases and three runs scored, while Keisha Powell had a single, a double and two runs scored.  


Game Twelve:  #3 Erskine 6 – # 9 St. Andrews 5

HARTSVILLE, SC –Erskine lost a five-run lead in the seventh inning before recovering to defeat St. Andrews 6-5 in their last at-bat.  The Fleet scored three runs via the long ball and scored two more with a bases loaded single.  Pitcher Kim Gunter breezed through the Knights for six innings but the pitching and defense failed in the seventh.  St. Andrews used three hits, a walk and two errors to tie the game at 5-5 and chase Gunter from the game.  Kim Hannon entered and recorded the next two outs to end the rally.  In the bottom of the inning, Erskine’s Jana Croft singled with one out and came around to score on Rebecca Clontz’s game-winning single.  Clontz went 2-4 with three RBI and a run scored, while Ashlee Lafontaine went 3-4 with a homer and three RBI.


Game Thirteen:  #1 Coker 2 – #4 Anderson 1

HARTSVILLE, SC – Coker pulled out a tense 2-1 victory over fourth-seeded Anderson with all three runs scored in the first inning.  AC leadoff hitter Jessica Hoffman gave the Cobras fits all game and started with an infield single.  She stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball before scoring on a two-out single by Rachelle Lawrence.  Coker had the number of Trojan starter Stephanie Griffis, loading the bases with a pair of walks and a single.  After a pop-up, Jessica Blackwell and Kimberly Atkinson both drew walks and the Cobras led 2-1.  Ashley Rogers then entered the game and limited CC to two hits the rest of the way.  Somer Bigham found her rhythm after the third inning and allowed only two base runners in the last four innings.


Game Fourteen:  #2 Belmont Abbey 9 - #6 Queens 1
 
HARTSVILLE, SC – Belmont Abbey forced Queens University of Charlotte to the consolation bracket with a convincing 9-1 victory Saturday afternoon.  The Crusaders fell behind 1-0 in the first inning when Shallyn Duffy walked in a run with the bases loaded.  The potent Abbey attack responded in the second, however, scoring four runs on three hits and two errors.  BAC added one in the fifth and erupted for four more runs in the sixth to end the game early.  The Crusaders didn’t overpower the Royals but had 11 hits, all of which were singles. Jessica Inman scored twice and had two stolen bases and Cameron Greene went 2-3 with two runs scored.


Game Fifteen:  #4 Anderson 6 - #3 Erskine 2

HARTSVILLE, SC – Anderson scored two runs in the first and never looked back in a 6-2 victory over Erskine.  Jessica Hoffman and Cindy Crosby came around to score again in the third for a 4-0 advantage but the Flying Fleet got one run back in the third and the fourth innings.  A solo homer by Rachelle Lawrence made it 5-2 in the fifth and Lindsay Crump came around to score in the sixth after a single and a stolen base.  Erskine exits the tournament while AC advances to play again Sunday morning at 11:00 AM.


Game Sixteen: #6 Queens 4 - #5 Limestone 0

HARTSVILLE, SC – Queens used another shutout performance from Meg Barker to defeat Limestone 4-0.  Barker limited the Saints to five hits and struck out five batters in the win.  The Royals scored one each in the first, second and third innings and added another in the seventh for good measure.  Brittany Harkey went 2-2 with a pair of doubles and a run scored and Danielle Woodford scored twice with a stolen base.


Game Seventeen:  #1 Coker 9 - #2 Belmont Abbey 1

HARTSVILLE, SC – Coker defeated Belmont Abbey 9-1 in five innings Saturday night to advance to the championship game of the CVAC Tournament.  Shallyn Duffy started back-to-back games for the Abbey and she didn’t look as sharp against the Cobras.  CC started the first inning with four singles and a double by Kimberly Atkinson made it 3-0.  After a groundout for the second out, Tiffany Johnson smacked a two-run homer to left center field and the Cobras led 6-0 after one.  Coker added three more in the third for a 9-0 advantage and starter Amanda Shelton took care of the rest.  The junior allowed only five hits and one walk while striking out six to earn her 12 win of the year.
