Game One: #8 Pfeiffer 2 – #9 St. Andrews 0

HARTSVILLE, SC – Pfeiffer defeated St. Andrews. 2-0 in a pitcher’s duel Friday morning at Byerly Park in the CVAC Softball Tournament.  Both teams managed only five hits in a game that went scoreless into the sixth inning.  In the bottom of the sixth, catcher Erin Furness singled with one out and number-three hitter Jody McCurdy followed with a two-run shot to right center field.  Falcon pitcher Tiffany Allen allowed five hits and only one walk to earn the win.


Game Two: #10 Mt. Olive 8 – #7 Barton 0

HARTSVILLE, SC – Mt. Olive used a big second inning to upset Barton by an 8-0 margin in game number two of the Tournament.  The Trojans had six hits, including four doubles, in second inning for a six-run outburst.  MOC had 10 hits in the game and starting pitcher Colleen Thomas limited the Bulldogs to only two base knocks to earn the shutout.  Melissa Bright went 3-4 with three runs scored and a stolen base for BC and Jamie Pruitt went 2-4 with a double. 


Game Three:  #6 Queens 10 – #11 Lees-McRae 1 (6)

HARTSVILLE, SC – Queens broke open a three-run game in the sixth inning to end the game early by a score of 10-1.  The Bobcats scored in the first for a 1-0 lead but Queens battled back in the third to grab a 3-1 lead.  The Royals used a LMC error in the fifth to lead 4-1 and busted down the door in the sixth inning.  Erin Crager scored three times for Queens and Britne’ Stubbs scored twice. 


Game Four:  #4 Anderson 6 – #5 Limestone 0

HARTSVILLE, SC – Anderson shutout Limestone 6-0 in the fourth game of the Tournament behind a strong outing by Ashley Rogers.  Rogers allowed only three hits and two walks while striking out nine Saint batters.  The Trojans scored four runs in the second inning and two in the fifth  to complete the scoring.  Lindsay Crump went 2-3 with two runs scored, one RBI and a stolen base to lead AC.  Courtney Silva led Limestone by going 2-3 with a pair of singles.  


Game Five:  #1 Coker 11 – #8 Pfeiffer 0 (5)

HARTSVILLE, SC – Coker had everything going in their first game of the CVAC Tournament, shutting out Pfeiffer 11-0.  Pitcher Amanda Shelton dominated while pitching a perfect three innings before giving way to Somer Bigham.  Hartsville’s Jessica Blackwell did the damage at the plate, going 3-3 with a single, a double and a homerun, while scoring three times and driving in five runs.  Eunice Nettles had a double and two RBI, and Christan Morabito went 2-4 with a run scored.


Game Six:  #2 Belmont Abbey 5 – #10 Mt. Olive 2

HARTSVILLE, SC – Belmont Abbey advanced in the winner’s bracket with a 5-2 victory over Mt. Olive Friday afternoon.  The Crusaders got back-to-back homeruns from Amy Sturch and Kelly Schaffer in the first inning for a 3-0 lead and held on for the win. The Trojans scored one in the third but BAC added two more in the fifth to push their lead to four runs.  Mt. Olive scored once more in the top of the seventh but the rally fell short.  Shallyn Duffy scattered seven hits and struck out two batters.


Game Seven:  #6 Queens 2 – #3 Erskine 0
 
HARTSVILLE, SC – Queens University of Charlotte was the only lower-seeded team to win twice on Friday, upsetting third-seeded Erskine 2-0 in the last game of the day.  The Royals used a double by Melissa Stuhr, a hit batter, a single and a sacrifice to put two runs on the board in the second inning and made it stand to get the win.  Meg Barker started for Queens and pitched a complete game shutout with seven strikeouts.
