HARTSVILLE, SC — Coker had to go extra innings in game two at Barton, but pulled out a 2-1 win, and with game one’s 7-1 victory, took the twinbill from the Bulldogs in collegiate softball. The Cobras have won six straight games after a series of double-header splits and are 23-15 overall, 12-4 in the CVAC. 

Coker started the series with a four-run first inning and went on to add one in the sixth and two in the seventh.  Barton mustered one run in the sixth but couldn’t get to starter Amanda Shelton. 

Shelton went the complete game with three strikeouts, five hits and one unearned run allowed.  The Cobras out-hit BC 12-5 and were led by freshman Tiffany Johnson, who went 3-5 with a homerun, one RBI and a run scored.  Kimberly Atkinson went 4-4 with a double, a RBI and a run scored and Christan Morabito had two hits, one run scored and a RBI.

Game two turned out to be a fantastic pitcher’s duel.  The two teams went through seven innings in a scoreless tie with Jayme Beacham and Somer Bigham pitching masterfully.  Coker and Barton both scored a run in the eighth inning but in the ninth, the Cobras pushed a run across and shutout the Bulldogs to earn the win.

Bigham allowed six hits and one unearned run in nine innings pitched, with seven strikeouts and only one walk.  Morabito went 1-2 with a double, a walk and a sacrifice fly, and Atkinson went 1-3 with a sacrifice fly and one RBI.  Amy Shelly had one hit, drew a walk, and had a sacrifice fly.

Coker has two double-headers remaining before the CVAC Tournament in Hartsville.  The Cobras host Erskine on Friday, April 15, at 3:00 PM, and Queens comes to town on Sunday, April 17, at 2:00 PM.
