HARTSVILLE, SC – Coker bounced back from a 2-0 defeat against Fairmont State in game one to take the second contest 8-3 in collegiate softball.  Coker is now 15-13 on the year with a trip to Lees-McRae up next on Sunday, March 20 at 2:00 PM.

The Cobras wasted a strong effort from pitcher Amanda Shelton in a 2-0 game one defeat.  Shelton gave up one run in the second and one in the seventh and kept Fairmont off balance for much of the game.

Coker out-hit the Falcons but couldn’t come through when it counted, leaving 13 runners on base.  Shelton pitched a complete game with six hits and only one walk allowed while striking out nine.

The Cobra offense perked up in the second game, scoring all eight runs in the first three innings.  CC tied the score at 1-1 in the first after a leadoff triple by Whitney Grooms.  Kimberly Atkinson began the second by smacking a homerun which started a six-run outburst to break open the game.

FSU scored two more in the third but Coker answered with one in the bottom of the inning to complete the scoring.  Somer Bigham started and went four innings, allowing three earned runs and three walks with eight strikeouts.  Shelton pitched the final three innings with three hits allowed and three strikeouts.

Jacque Stewart went 2-4 with three RBI in the second game and Nicole Crider had two hits and scored twice.  Jessica Blackwell went hitless but drove in two runs and scored once.
