HARTSVILLE, SC – Coker swept its double-header with Shaw Wednesday afternoon by scores of 14-4 and 9-0 in collegiate softball.  CC improves to 7-5 on the year while the Bears fall to 0-4.

Shaw jumped ahead against game one starter Jessica Blackwell, plating four runs in the first inning despite not getting a hit.  Six batters drew walks and another run scored on an error by the third baseman.  Blackwell got a strike out and a ground out to end the inning but Shaw led 4-0 at that point.

Coker got one run back on a RBI single by Marie Mascio in the bottom of the first and Blackwell went unscathed in the top of the second for a 4-1 Shaw lead.  A bases-loaded double by Christan Morabito made it 4-3 and Coker made it 5-4 with a sacrifice fly from Mascio.

Junior Amanda Shelton entered the pitcher’s circle in the top of the third and shut the Bears down the rest of the way.  A huge nine run inning in the bottom of the third gave the Cobras a 14-4 advantage which they preserved for the five-inning victory.

Shelton continued to dominate in the second game, allowing only one hit in the five-inning game and striking out five.  The Cobras backed her up with three runs in the first, three in the second and three in the fourth for the shut-out win.

Kimberly Atkinson hit her first collegiate homerun in the fourth inning and Stewart smacked her second blast of the year, a three-run shot in the first inning.  Atkinson went 3-3 with three runs scored and four RBI in the game and freshman Whitney Watts picked up two hits and three runs scored.

Stewart went 3-5 on the day with four RBI and three runs scored and Morabito had two hits three RBI and four runs scored.

Coker faces a pair of tough double-headers this weekend on the road.  CC travels to Pfeiffer on Saturday for a 2:00 PM start and then its on to Limestone for another 2:00 PM start on Sunday.
