Cobras Eager to Return Home for Tuesday Match Against NJIT

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College men's volleyball team is eager to return home and host NJIT on Tuesday (Mar. 14) after playing nine-straight games on the road. The Cobras finished 4-5 during the road trip and dropped four matches to Division I opponents. The Cobras and Highlanders met just five days ago on Thursday (Mar. 9) at NJIT. During that match the Highlanders came away with a 3-0 victory. Joao Victor Santos led the offensive attack for the Navy and Gold with seven kills. Sanjae Holloway added three kills and compiled an impressive .600 hitting percentage. In addition, Stephen Porras led the Cobras in assists, dishing out seven.

Coker heads into tomorrow's match with a 9-7 overall record and ranked fourth in the nation in aces per set, averaging 1.70. Leading the way offensively for the Cobras is Joao Victor Santos who has laid down a team-best 166 kills, which is good for 3.61 kills per set. Aleksa Bijelic has been another important factor to the Navy and Gold's offense by dishing out a team-high 391 assists.

On the defensive end of the ball, Luca Berger and Devion Whetstone have created problems for the opposition's offense. Berger has collected a team-leading 39 total blocks, while Whetstone has added 34 total blocks. Gary Baker has also been an important piece to Coker's defense with a team-best 93 digs.

NJIT comes into tomorrow's match sporting a 9-7 overall record. Jabarry Goodridge is the Highlanders largest offensive threat with a team-high 267 kills. In addition, Goodridge is second in the nation in points per set with 5.15, and fourth in the nation in kills per set, averaging 4.45.

Tickets for the game are $5 for adults, $3 for students and free to all Coker faculty, staff and students.
