HARTSVILLE, SC – The Coker men's volleyball team lost a 3-2 heartbreaker to the visiting Highlanders of Cairn University Monday (Mar. 11) night.
Cairn claimed the first set 25-23, but the Cobras battled back to control the next two sets 25-22, and 30-28. The Highlanders however, wouldn't surrender easily as they took the fourth set 25-19 to force a fifth and final set.
In the fifth set Coker started off hot, taking the first three straight points. Cairn then responded with a four-point streak of their own to take the 4-3 advantage. Both teams battled to a 13-13 tie, but in the end Cairn would have the final say taking the next two points and the match with a final set of 15-13.
Luke Hansen lead the match with 24-kills, while Jared Geizer and Devion Whetstone added 13 and 11 each. Ricardo Ferrer tallied a game high 50-assists, while Cooper Lyon led the defense with nine digs.
As a team the Cobras landed 60-kills, collected 56-assists, and blocked nine shots.
Coker will be looking to get back on track tomorrow (Mar. 12), when they face Erskine in a Conference Carolinas competition. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start time.
