WILSON, N.C. – The Coker men's volleyball team captured their fourth win in a row, along with their third straight conference game when they defeated Barton College 3-2 on Wednesday (Mar. 6).
Coker wasted little time and quickly took control of the first two sets after winning 25-19 and 25-23.
The Bulldogs however, battled back to take the next two sets 25-20 to force a fifth and final set.
In the fifth set Barton took the first 3-of-4 points to take an early 3-1 lead. Coker would battle back to take a 6-5 lead, but the score would stay close for the next seven points. With the 15-point mark quickly approaching, Coker had a slight 10-8 advantage. Suddenly, Coker's offense would take over and score the next five straight points to win the set 15-8.
Jared Geizer and Luke Hansen led the game with 16-kills each, followed by Devion Whetstone with nine. Cooper Lyon lead the game with 14-digs, while Ricardo Ferrer had the game high 44-assists. Ferrer also landed three blocks on the night.
As a team the navy and yellow collected 55-kills, 55-assists, and 44-digs, while earning a kill percentage of .188.
Coker will return home to Timberlake-Lawton Gymnasium this Monday (Mar. 11) to host Cairn University. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start time.
