Coker Volleyball Shuts Down Washington Adventist, 3-0

GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Coker men's volleyball team defeated Washington Adventist 3-0 on Sunday (Feb. 17) in non-conference action.

It was a dominating performance by the Cobras from start to finish.  In the first set Coker did not give up a kill for the first 13-rallies of the competition.  In fact, the Cobras would only surrender 12-points in total during the first set and took a commanding 25-12 victory.

The start of the second set would prove to be more competitive, as both teams battled to a 9-9 tie.  Suddenly, Coker regained momentum and scored the next ten points to take a 19-9 lead over Washington Adventist.  The Cobras would eventually go on to win the second set 25-13.

The Cobras did not let-up in the third set, as they quickly took a 19-6 advantage.  Coker would then take 6-of-9 points scored to complete the 3-0 shut out with a 25-11 third set win.

Luke Hansen once again led the team in the kills category, after he threw down the game high 14.  Devion Whetstone made his presence felt during the competition after collecting eight kills of his own and tallying one block.  Ricardo Ferrer landed seven kills and dished out 29-assits; while Cooper Lyon collected the game high eight digs. 

As a team the Cobras downed 38-kills compared to Washington Adventists' five.  Coker also earned 33-digs and compiled 37-assists.

Coker will return home on Friday (Feb. 22) to face East Mennonite and Rust College in a double-header.  The first game is set for a 1:00 p.m. start time, followed by the second game beginning at 5:00 p.m.
