Falcons Top Cobras in Home Opener

HARTSVILLE, S.C. –The Coker men's volleyball team lost their home opener 3-0 to Pfeiffer University (7-3, 6-1) in a Conference Carolinas match-up on Thursday (Feb. 7).

The final box score was no indication of how competitive the match was.  Both teams battled throughout all three sets, with the largest lead throughout the game being just five points.

The Falcons took control in the first set with a 25-20 win, but the Cobras came back in the second set where they fell just short in a 28-26 match.  The third and final set was also very competitive, but Pfeiffer came out on-top with a 25-22 win to complete the sweep.

Coker led competition in the kills category with 35 as a team, while Pfeiffer was right behind the Cobras with 33.  Coker also led the game with 34-assits compared to Pfeiffers 31.  The Falcons however, won in the dig category (20-to-18) along with total team blocks (6-to-4).

Jared Geizer had a career high 11-kills, and also led the Cobras for the competition.  Luke Hansen was second for the Cobras with nine kills, followed by James Joseph with five.  Ricardo Ferrer had the team high in assists (28) and digs (4). 

Coker's next competition will be at home against Mount Olive on Wednesday (Feb. 13).  The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start time.
