Coker's Simpson Receives USPTA Recognition

FULL UNITED STATES PROFESSIONAL TENNIS ASSOCIATION RELEASE

LAKE NONA, Fla. - Coker University head tennis coach Tom Simpson recently received recognition from the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) in the organization's continuing education program.

"I am very happy to again receive the recognition for outstanding participation with the USPTA's continuing education program," said Simpson. "In my 35 years as an USPTA Elite Professional, I have greatly valued the importance constantly improving and growing in the knowledge of the game of tennis. This has served me well as as a resort professional, coaching at tennis academies and now as the Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach at Coker University. My purpose is to always add value to others. By challenging myself to stay as a learner in my profession as a college tennis coach, the continuing education program has been invaluable. Our players improvement is a testament to that fact."

Simpson received a Level I certification for passing 15 credits in the organization's career development program over a one-year period.

Simpson coached at Coker from 2011-14, before returning to the helm of the Cobra programs in 2017. Throughout his time at Coker, he has been named both the USPTA Southern Division and Conference Carolinas Coach of the Year (2013), leading the men's team to the 2013 Conference Carolinas regular season championship.

USPTA members work as tennis directors, club managers, teaching professionals and instructors at public and private tennis facilities. They serve as the sport's primary delivery system of grassroots programs to grow the game and are a leading influence among recreational and club players for tennis equipment and services.
