Men's Tennis Picked Seventh in South Atlantic Conference Preseason Coaches Poll

FULL SOUTH ATLANTIC CONFERENCE RELEASE

ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Coker University men's tennis team was picked seventh in the South Atlantic Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, announced by the league today (Thursday, Jan. 23). 

Wingate topped the poll with 132 points and 11 first-place votes, while Queens (N.C.) took second with 119 points and the remaining first-place vote. Tusculum was third with 109 points, while Lenoir-Rhyne was fourth with 105 points. Anderson (S.C.) was picked fifth with 92 points, while Newberry was slated seventh with 76 points. Coker was tabbed seventh with 62 points, while Carson-Newman was picked eighth (61 points) and Catawba ninth (60 points). Lincoln Memorial (54 points), Mars Hill (32 points) and UVA-Wise (22 points) rounded out the poll. 

The Cobras won eight matches last season, including five in the South Atlantic Conference. Coker returns eight men from a season ago, including Hunter Horton and Justus Lehmann who each won nine singles matches last year. Lehmann also teamed up with Isaac MacMillan for nine doubles wins in 2018-19. The Cobras will also welcome two freshmen into the mix this season. 

 The Cobras open up the 2020 campaign on Feb. 6 when they host Southern Wesleyan in non-conference action. First serve is set for 3:00 p.m. from the Coker University tennis courts.
