Coker Falls to No. 20 Tampa 4-0

MORROW, Ga. – The Coker men's soccer team lost its opening match of the 2013 season, falling 4-0 to nationally ranked No. 20 University of Tampa in its first match of a season opening tournament at Clayton State.

The Cobras and the Spartans were evenly matched for the first 45 minutes of play. Tampa held a slight advantage on shots, 8-6, and both teams managed to put a two shots on frame, with each goalkeeper making a pair of saves.

The score remained deadlocked at zero for the first ten minutes of the second half, but in the 54th minute the Spartans found the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead. Unfortunately for Coker, the scoring did not stop there. Tampa scored three more goals during the final 34 minutes of the half to take home the 4-0 victory.

Freshman goalkeeper Kyndle Cobb made four saves between the posts for the Cobras and senior Daniel Jackson had three shots.

Coker will return to the pitch for its second match of the Clayton State Tournament on Monday (Sept. 9). The Cobras will face the host, the Lakers of Clayton State, at 7:30 p.m.
