Wilson and Bretton Lead Coker to Overtime Victory Against Tusculum

HARTSVILLE, S.C. –Shane Wilson netted the game-winning goal and John Bretton scored six goals to lead the Coker Cobras to an 11-10 overtime win against the Tusculum Pioneers in South Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse action on Friday (Apr. 3) afternoon. The win extends the Cobras' winning streak to seven games and moves them into sole possession of first place in the SAC standings with a record of 6-1 in conference.

Wilson finished the game with a hat trick, scoring both the first and last goals of the game. The game-winner came with just a minute left in the overtime period with an assist from the reigning AstroTurf SAC Player of the Week, Josh Smith.

Bretton had a phenomenal final home game at Coker. The senior netted six goals on 13 shots to pace the Cobra offense. Scoring the other two goals for the Cobras was Josh Wassum. Mike Martiello finished the game with four assists, while Rylee Marsh picked up a single helper.  

The senior quartet of John Elliott, Dylan Marks, Sean Buff and Tim Ryan locked down the Coker defense. Elliott caused six turnovers and scooped up three ground balls, while Marks caused a turnover and had three ground balls and Buff picked up a pair of ground balls. Ryan was masterful between the pipes as he made seven saves. 

The Cobras will hit the road for their final game of the regular season on Saturday (Apr. 11) at Brevard. Face-off is set for noon.
