Coker Falls to Florida Southern, 12-7

HARTSVILLE, S.C. -  The Coker men's lacrosse team dropped a heartbreaker to Florida Southern on Saturday (Mar. 30), 12-7.

The first half saw a lot of defensive action, with the Moccasins taking a narrow 2-1 lead into the break. After halftime the Cobras turned up the offensive pressure as they scored three unanswered goals in the first three minutes of the third quarter making it a 4-2 game. Florida Southern quickly answered with three goals of their own to retake the one goal lead, 5-4. A man-up goal by Keith LaClair with three minutes remaining in the quarter tied the game at five. The Mocs did not let the game stay tied for long, adding three more goals in the final minutes of the quarter to take an 8-5 lead into the fourth.

The Cobras scored two more goals in the fourth, but Florida Southern added four more to take the 12-7 victory.

Tim Ryan made 14 saves in the net for the Cobras, while Coker scored six of their seven goals during man-up opportunities.

LaClair fueled the offense for Coker, scoring three goals with two assists, while John Bretton had a goal and two assists. Ryan Maurer and Timothy Smith each had a goal and an assist and Steven Zolezzi netted a single goal.

The Cobras will return to the field on Saturday (April 6) at home against Lenoir-Rhyne. Game time is set for 6 p.m. at Byerly Park.
