Cobras in Ninth After Day One of Hargett Memorial Invitational

MONROE, N.C. – The Coker College men's golf team shot rounds of 312 and 301 on day one (Mar. 16) of the Hargett Memorial Invitational. The 36-hole team total of 613 leaves them in a tie for ninth place heading into the final 18 holes of play.

The freshman tandem of Alex Rios and Jonathan Sundstrom led the way for the Navy and Yellow, posting day one scores of 151. Rios shot rounds of 77 and 74, while Sundstrom rebounded from an opening round 78 to fire an afternoon round of 73. Sophomore Will Bundy also came back from a morning round of 78 with a second round of 74 to finish with a 36-hole score of 152. Juniors Blake Baysden and John Duke rounded out the traveling five with opening day scores of 159 and 161. Baysden shot rounds of 79 and 80, while Duke signed off on rounds of 81 and 80.

Host school Wingate University is atop the team leaderboard with a team total of 589 after rounds one and two. Leennawat Numpituckc of King University is the overnight individual leader after shooting rounds of 71 and 70 on day one in route to a 141 36-hole total.

Tee times will begin tomorrow (Mar. 17) morning at the Monroe Country Club.
