Coker Finishes Pirate Invitational in Ninth

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Coker junior Jake Murphy (Hamilton, N.J.) carded rounds of 75 and 77, to lead the way as the Cobra men's golf team finished the 2012 Armstrong Pirate Invitational in ninth place on Tuesday.

In a field that featured five Top 25 teams, the Cobras carded a 614 (+46) in the two-round tournament. Georgia College and State University took home the championship, followed by UNC Pembroke and Armstrong Atlantic in second and third respectively.

Coker was the second best Conference Carolinas program at the event. Belmont Abbey placed fifth and Mount Olive came in 13th.

Sophomore Josh Clay (Stark County, Ohio) fired a 75 and a 78, while Matt Kreider (Westlake, Ohio) shot 76 and 77. Freshmen Christopher Fuga (Phoenixville, Pa.) and Luke Coates (Florence, S.C.) brought in scores of 78, 78 and 79, 80 respectively to round out the Cobra golfers.

The Coker men will be back on the links for their next event at the Magnolia Invitational in Orangeburg, S.C. on March 12-13.
