HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker College sophomore Jake Murphy will be packing his bags and heading for Deland, Florida in the coming weeks to participate in the 2011 NCAA South/Southeast Super Regional Golf Tournament. The lone Cobra to qualify for the tournament, Murphy will tee it up with the best NCAA Division II golfers in the south and southeast region May 2-4 at the Victoria Hills Golf Club.

Murphy was a First Team All-Conference selection and one of the top golfers not only in Conference Carolinas, but in the entire southeast region during the 2010-11 season. He posted a 72.7 stroke average over 10 tournaments, including finishing in to Top Five in six tournaments. He took home medalist honors in the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate and the St. Andrews versus Coker Dual Match. He also placed second at the Golfweek Division II Spring Invitational against the top Division II players in the country.

Murphy becomes the first individual Coker golfer to qualify for the NCAA Regional Tournament. As a team the Cobras have qualified eight times with their last appearance coming in 2009.

Joining Murphy as individual qualifiers for the super regional are: Gavin Hay (Carson-Newman); Max Fischer (Lander) and Liam Ashby (Carson-Newman). The ten teams that have qualified are: Georgia College & State University, Barton College, Armstrong Atlantic State University, Columbus State University, Newberry College, UNC Pembroke, Flagler College, Queens University of Charlotte, USC Aiken and Belmont Abbey College.
