WHITE LAKE, N.C. – Ben Conroy (Durham, Conn.)of Coker and David Bainbridge of Queens carded opening-round 68’s to finish tied for the individual lead after the first round of the Carolina Sands Intercollegiate on Saturday in White Lake.

Belmont Abbey and Lenoir-Rhyne sit tied for the team lead after both squads finished one-under-par on the par-72, 6,925-yard Carolina Sands at White Lake course, while Barton (E), Queens (+3), Mount Olive (+6) and Coker (+9) round out the top six teams.

The 81-competitor field battled through gusting wind up to 35 miles per hour during the first round.

In addition to Conroy’s low round, Jake Murphy (Hamilton, N.J.) is tied for tenth after carding an even par 72. Diego Polo (Guatemala City, Guatemala) shot a six-over-par 78, with Josh Clay (Stark County, Ohio) shooting a seven over 79. Jared Crane (Greenville, S.C.) rounds out the field for the Cobras with a ten over 82.

The tournament will conclude with the final round on Sunday.
