ELIZABETHTOWN, N.C. - Coker College shot a team opening round 281 at the 2010 Carolina Sands Intercollegiate on Friday to lead all teams at the event hosted by UNC Pembroke at the par-72, 6,925-yard Carolina Sands Golf Course at White Lake as the Braves sit six strokes back in second place after combining for a 287.

Coker's Jacob Murphy and Jared Crane rank first and second, respectively, on the individual leaderboard after Murphy carded a 69 and Crane posted a 70. Eight players tied for third place at 71 including UNCP's Jonathan McCurry and Jordan Walor.

St. Andrews Presbyterian College and Tusculum College tied for third place in the team standings with combining for a 294. Mount Olive is in fifth place after shooting a team 297.

For the Braves Parker Houston posted an even-par 72 to tie for 11th with teammates Scott Lambert and Carson Lanier tying for 18th at 73.

The second and final round of the 2010 Carolina Sands will take place tomorrow with the first tee times beginning at 8 a.m.
