Columbia, S.C. – The Coker golf team placed third at the 2009 Honda Fall Classic hosted by Newberry College over the weekend. The Cobras shot a combined 572 (-4) in the two round tournament, behind champions Newberry College 551 (-25) and second place finisher UNC-Pembroke 556 (-20). Coker was the highest finishing Conference Carolinas school, with Anderson University placing eighth, Queens University and St. Andrews Presbyterian College tied for ninth and Pfeiffer University came in 12th.

Individually, the Cobras were led by senior Chris Marsh (Georgetown, S.C.) as he shot 142 (-2) and placed 12th. Following Marsh was sophomore Jared crane (Greenville, S.C.) with a 143 (-1) performance. John LaDow (Pottstown, Pa.) and Patrick Kirby (Paris, Ontario) each shot 145 (+1) and rounding out the Cobra five was freshman Jacob Murphy (Hamilton, N.J.) with a two round total of 146 (+2).

The Cobras are currently ranked #25 in the nation by Golfstat, one of just two Conference Carolinas schools to crack the top 25. Coker will tee it up on Monday, Sept. 21 at the State Farm- Laker Collegiate Classic in Hampton, Ga. hosted by Clayton State University.
