CLEMMONS, N.C. -- Get ready for the "Shootout at Salem Glen." Pfeiffer University fired a tournament-best 280 (-4) Monday to take a one-shot lead over defending champ Barton and Belmont Abbey after two days of the Conference Carolinas Men's Golf Championships. Only three shots back of the lead at 588 (+20) are Coker and Anderson, which means five teams are within three shots of the lead heading into Tuesday's final round over the par-71, 6,726-yard layout at the Salem Glen Country Club.

Belmont Abbey sophomore Connor Tomlinson maintained his individual lead by shooting a 1-under 70. His 69-70--139 (-3) is one shot better than Anderson junior Adam Sheriff, who fired the tournament's best round of 66 on Monday. Tied for third at even-par 142 are Pfeiffer freshman Laurence Noott (75-67--142) and Coker sophomore Jimmy Gillam (71-71--142). Fifth place is occupied by St. Andrews Presbyterian College senior Alfred Kristinsson at 71-73--144. Seven players are tied for 6th overall at 4-over 145, including junior Jonathan Burke (72-73), sophomore Stephen Harrison (74-71) and freshman Daniel Castleberry (76-69) of Barton. Burke is the defending conference medalist.

Senior co-captain Neal Jones rebounded from an 86 to shoot 72 and give Barton Monday's second-best round of 1-over 285. Pfeiffer, which started the day nine shots back of the overall lead, also counted a 68 from Marc Kourie, a 70 by Mark Lumley and a 75 by Mike Joy to move into the lead.

Coker's Chris Marsh had the only other round in the 60s on Monday, shooting a 69 to pace the Cobras.
