Orlando, FL- St. Edward’s University captured the 2007 Coker College Invitational Golf Tournament Championship on Tuesday afternoon with an impressive score of 562 (-14) in the two day event at the Panther Lake Course of Orange County National. St. Edward’s defeated 20 of the top teams in the nation including current #1 ranked Barry University, who placed third with a score of 573 (-3) and current #2 ranked Florida Southern University, who placed second with a score of 567 (-9).

This year’s tournament had two leading individuals, as Chris Wolfe of Armstrong Atlantic and Matt Smith of St. Edward’s each fired two round totals of 134 (-10).

For the Coker, as a team the Cobras placed 13th with a two day score of 587 (+11). Individually, Chris Marsh (Georgetown, SC) was the team leader with a 144 (E), followed by Stephen Thompson’s (Bracebridge, Ontario) 145 (+1). Benoit Gordon (Montreal, Quebec) shot a five over 149, while freshmen AJ Sanders (Hartsville, SC) and Ben Lasso (Falls Church, VA) each shot 157 (+13).

Coker returns to the links next Monday, as they travel to Columbus, GA, to play in the Columbus State University Tournament.
