Kiawah Island, SC- The Coker Golf Team fired the fifth lowest team score of the day, as they moved up three spots and finished in sixth place at the 2007 Kiawah Island Invitational hosted by USC-Aiken. The Cobras finished with a combined score of 600 (+24) over the two day tournament, falling just one shot short of conference foe Belmont Abbey, 599 (+23). Oklahoma Christian held on to the top spot in the field with a two day 576 (E), while Armstrong Atlantic finished in second with a 579 (+3) and North Alabama in third with a 582 (+6).

 

Individually for the Cobras, Chris Marsh/Georgetown, SC, was the low man on the day, firing a one over 73, while Ben Lasso/Falls Church, VA, shot another three over 75. Benoit Gordon/Montreal, Quebec, and Stephen Thomson/Bracebridge, Ontario, shot 77 (+5) and 78 (+6) respectively, with AJ Sanders/Hartsville, SC, rounding out the field with a second round 82 (+10).

 

The Cobras were led by their new assitant coach, Stephen Frisch, who made his collegiate coaching debut during the tournament.

 

For the tournament, Marsh placed sixth, while Gordon was 18th and Lasso was 24th.

 

The Cobras return to the course on Monday, September 24, as they travel to Orange County National in Orlando, FL, for the 3rd Annual Coker College Invitational.
