Cobras Fall to Pirates in Division I Exhibition

HAMPTON, VA. – The Coker College men's basketball team dropped a matchup on Friday (Dec. 30) evening to Hampton University in a Division I exhibition by a score of 94-69.

A Roman Hall basket coming out of the under 16-minute media timeout gave the Cobras a 7-5 lead with 15:22 left in the opening half. The Pirates began to find the wind behind their sails, outscoring Coker 23-8 over the eight minutes to take a 28-15 lead with seven minutes left in the opening half. Thanks to three-consecutive threes, the Navy and Gold put together a 9-2 run over the next two minutes, leaving them down by just six with 5:25 to go in the first half. Hampton regained momentum, taking a 43-29 lead as the two sides departed for the locker rooms at halftime.

The Pirates opened the second half on 7-0 run to take a 21-point lead and would pick up the eventual 94-69 win over Coker.

The trio of JaQuez Motley, Jalal Abdul-Azeez and Hall led the way with 16, 13 and 10 points. Miguel Priest rounded things out with nine points and eight rebounds.

The Cobras will be back in action on Wednesday (Jan. 4) at 8 p.m. to host the visiting Wingate University Bulldogs in a South Atlantic Conference matchup.
