HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Liam Kyle (Cleveland, Ohio) and Tom Wright (Sydney, Australia) scored 18 and 16 points respectively, but a late second half run by the Trojans of Mount Olive led to a 71-65 win for the Trojans on Tuesday night in Conference Carolinas men’s basketball action.

It was a tightly contested ball game that saw 10 different lead changes over the course of the 40 minute game. The largest margin between the two teams was eight points and that was held by Mount Olive multiple times in the second half, but each time Coker was quick to respond.

The Trojans held a narrow six point lead (29-23) at the break thanks to some stellar three-point shooting. The Trojans were 7-for-11 (63.6%) from beyond the arc in the first half, but Coker answered with some physical play in the paint drawing fouls and head to the charity stripe 19 times, where they knocked down 17 of their attempts.

The Cobras looked to be within striking distance with the game tied with just four minutes left, but a 13-7 run down the stretch gave the Trojans just enjoy to seal the victory.

Mount Olive’s Ewon Wright had a game high 21 points, 15 of those came from long range. Derek Staton added 16 points, while Brandon Allen and Mahamed Ibrahim had 13 and 10 points respectively. Allen grabbed seven rebounds and Dory Hines had a game high eight boards on the night.

In addition to Kyle’s 18 points he pulled down seven boards for the Cobras, with Vatrick Thompson (Columbia, S.C.) netting 10 points.

The Cobras will return to action on Thursday in a road game against St. Andrews Presbyterian College at 7:30 p.m.
