HARTSVILLE, SC – A pair of three-pointers in the final seconds wouldn’t fall for Coker Thursday night and the Cobras fell 75-72 to Queens University of Charlotte in men’s college basketball.  CC drops to 6-17 overall and 4-12 in the conference, while Queens moves to 11-13 and 8-9 in CVAC play.

The Royals forged a 32-23 lead in the first half on the strength of 54 percent shooting.  The Cobras took a wild three-pointer on their final possession of the half and Queens made them pay when B.J. Timmons sunk a mid-range jumper with four seconds left for the nine-point lead.

Coker’s deficit stayed around the 10-point mark for much of the second period before CC heated up in the last five minutes.  The Cobras scored eleven-straight points to cut the lead to 59-58 but a Timmons three-pointer ended the run and pushed the advantage back to four points. 

Queens led 73-67 with 32 seconds left but J’Vaughn Hawkins raced down the court for a layup to pull within four.  Coker forced a turnover with its full-court press and, on the following in-bounds play, Jamie Jenkins got a lay-in and was fouled.  Jenkins made the free-throw and the Royal lead shrunk to 73-72.

Timon Farley made two clutch free-throws to push the margin back to three-points and CC called timeout.  Junior Johnny Jackson took an errant three from the top of the key but the ball bounded back to Jason Fulwood.  Fulwood had a good look with two seconds left but his shot also missed the mark and Queens rebounded for the victory.

Jenkins led Coker offensively with 13 and five rebounds on 11-12 shooting from the charity stripe.  Hawkins came up big with 12 points and the duo of Fulwood and Mark Duncan both finished with 11. 

Five Queens players reached double-digits led by 14 from Timmons.  Kane totaled 12 points and four assists and Esau Eatman finished with 11 points.  Davon Hood and Timon Farley each scored 10 on a night that the Royals had to rely on their bench with their five leading scorers all battling foul trouble.

Coker returns to action Saturday afternoon, February 19, at 4:00 PM against Limestone in Hartsville.
